The Global Impact of Human Rights

Dave Craig is a two-time cancer survivor, oncology researcher and patient experience champion. After 10 years of struggling to see his own cancer journey in the patient experience research he led for the pharmaceutical industry, he left to use his survivor heart and researcher brain to help other patients. In 2016, he co-founded Gryt (“grit”) Health, a digital oncology solutions company that empowers people to be in charge of their own health through connection, education and advocacy. At Gryt Health, he and his team of fellow survivors and caregivers, use their expertise and personal experiences to improve medicine development and access, while creating platforms to learn from and support the lived experiences of facing a diagnosis.

Dr. Hou is the Infection Control Officer and Medical Director of Research for Jefferson Health - New Jersey (JNJ) and an Infectious Diseases specialist. She is dually board-certified in internal medicine and infectious diseases. Dr. Hou has expertise in sepsis, antibiotic stewardship, and infection control. In addition, Dr. Hou is the Chief Medical Officer of the Sepsis Alliance and a member of its Board of Directors; in addition, she is a medical advisor for the Sepsis Innovation Collaborative. Dr. Hou earned an M.B.A. and M.A. from Boston University, a D.O. from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine, and B.S. from Yale University. She has a Certification in Infection Prevention and Control (CIC), is a Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ), and a Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS). Dr. Hou is a Fellow for the American College of Osteopathic Internists (ACOI), American College of Physicians (ACP) and the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA). 

Chris McCarthy is a change rebel and healthcare innovator.  He served as Hopelab’s VP of Strategy and Design until January of this year.  His focus was at the intersection of design and science in the service of good.  In his previous role at Kaiser Permanente, he co-founded and co-lead the Innovation Consultancy where he tackled complex, strategic challenges and taught design thinking to many KP’ers along the way. In 2005, Chris founded the Innovation Learning Network, an international organization of 40 care delivery systems, foundations, and design firms that committed to sharing innovations, teaching innovation approaches, and building friendships.  He is currently launching his own practice. 

Chris has a master’s in business administration from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute / Copenhagen Business School, and a master’s in public health in Health Policy from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. In his spare time, he obsesses about fitness, musicals, and skiing between the trees.

Manan Shah recently joined Bristol Myers Squibb as Vice President, Head of Global Health Equity & Policy Partnerships. He has over 15 years of US and international health policy, equity, advocacy, public affairs, and communications experience in the healthcare sector in the United States, Europe and developing markets across the globe.

Manan is also currently an adjunct Assistant Professor of Public Health at Fairleigh Dickinson University’s School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences and School of Public and Global Affairs. He has designed and currently teaches numerous courses including Social & Economic Determinants of Health, Politics & Public Health, Issues in Global Health and Mental Health Advocacy.

Manan received his MBA from the University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign, and Master of Public Affairs & Politics from Rutgers University. He did his undergraduate studies at American University and has a Public Leadership Credential from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government. He is currently pursuing his LLM, Master of Law, from the London School of Economics with a focus on health and human rights law.
